It's Okay To Go Slow
In the latest episode of the Podcast I mentioned my slow mornings and how important they've been to me, but as I go through this transition, I can't help but feel guilt.
Old feelings and patterns still creep up in the middle of the day or night. They feel so natural, like breathing. I tell myself “Oh my Gosh, it’s almost noon and I’ve done nothing today.” And the other side of me says, “Yeah, girl it’s called healing, recovery, and rest from the last 7 years of doing the work, and it’s okay for things to be unknown and mundane-also you just made your bed, and coffee-so chill.” Now that you’ve heard the dialogue from a Gemini Moon, I feel like we can get really real and honest here. Maybe this is a case of Millennial guilt because it has been ingrained in us to believe that if we’re not uber productive then we’re lazy-and lazy is bad! In 30 Pause, I’m rejecting that narrative. What a horribly dogmatic way of thinking.
I’ve learned that when people are always “keeping busy” its most likely a trauma response. I’ve been guilty of this myself. I’ve learned we often do it to avoid our feelings, avoid the uncomfortable physical effects of said feelings, and then use judgement upon ourself and others as a way to justify the stories we tell ourselves. Ever notice the people who always keep busy are the same people who are always trying to fix apart of themselves that no one else thinks needs to be fixed? Whether it’s to lose that last 15 pounds or to tell yourself you should read more, when you haven’t physically picked up a book and read in years because you’re simply not a reader (which is also okay because thats what Audio Books and Podcasts are for).
If this resonates with you, then please know that you’re not lazy, you’re healing, you’re unlearning, you’re giving yourself grace, and those are all perfectly normal human things to do. Not every season is supposed to be exciting and filled with big events. The mundane and the ordinary are just as important. Besides, we’re literally in between eclipses, you’re not crazy!
If you haven’t already, be sure to listen to the latest episode of the 30 Pause Podcast for more on my slow mornings and experience during this transformative time.
Life is full of grey areas. Pause and embrace the routines, the mundane, and the boring. You’re doing great sweetie!
XO,
Heather
